About the app

What FocusStepper does

FocusStepper is an iPhone app for compatible Sony cameras. It helps you connect over Bluetooth, calibrate lens movement, configure a bracket plan, and run repeatable focus-bracketing sequences from your phone.

Compatibility

What you need

  • An iPhone running a supported iOS version
  • A compatible Sony camera with Bluetooth remote control available
  • Bluetooth enabled on both the iPhone and camera

Getting started

Basic workflow

  1. Open FocusStepper and allow Bluetooth access when asked.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on your Sony camera and connect to it from the app.
  3. Run the focus travel calibration if you have not done that for the lens yet.
  4. Choose your shot count, focus step size, and delays.
  5. Start the bracket and let the app step focus and trigger the shutter.

Subscriptions

Premium help

  • The free tier includes connection, focus checks, calibration, and capped bracket runs.
  • Premium unlocks unlimited runs, saved setups, focus profiles, and session review.
  • Purchases and subscription changes are handled through your Apple account and the App Store.
  • If you already subscribed, use the restore purchases option in the app on a new device.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

  • If your camera does not appear, verify that Bluetooth is enabled and that the camera supports the required remote-control flow.
  • If focus movement feels off, recalibrate the lens in the app before saving a setup.
  • If Premium does not appear active, restore purchases and confirm you are signed in with the correct Apple ID.
